KIMUSAWEA "Kurze Abhandlung Vom Menchen Und Seinem Glück" LP (nab13)

Released on NABATE on january 1998. KIMUSAWEA hailed from Frankfurt, Germany, and this 12" is the follow up of their debut ep 7" on the MAXIMUM VOICE PRODUCTION label. The band split up the same year following the relocation of the singer Alex to Berlin. She screamed with now dufunct grindcore band BOLZ'N and has several other project to date (www.myspace.com/alexandravonbolzn). The sleeve was designed by the band and has one hole in the front and the lyrics are printed in varnish on the back. KIMUSAWEA remains the most sophisticated band on the NABATE catalog. Due to their originality and the slit up, the 12" didn't sell well.
edit I: Here the link to the new web site of Alex: http://alphacat.mulomatic.net/
edit II: You can find the 7" on the excelent 7inchcrust.blogspot

track list:
A
1. Star (Look Up My X-File) (3:58)
2. Blut, Blüte (Weltschmerz-Verbresserer) (3:45)
3. Tagebuch EinerbKrankheit, Die Deinen Namen Trug (4:12)
B
4. Winter Der Liebe (3:38)
5. Tief (6:19)
6. Kairos (3:33)

Track 3 includes samples taken from: Wild At Heart (by David Lynch), Life Dances On... (by Robert Frank), Brazil (by Terry Gilliam), Phase IV (by Saul Bass) and Elephant Man (again by David Lynch).

review found on internet:
«This LP combines really cool abstract, artistic material and direct punk rock. Each songs has many layers, giving it a really full sound. Kimusawea have an intense sound that doesn't quit. A lot of German bands have this engaging style, but the female vocals bring in a hint of Nausea that can't be ignored. One track goes deep into a trance-like groove that reminded me of Neurosis. The packaging is also really impressive. The lyrics are printed in varnish on the back cover; a nice effect, but it does make them hard to read at times. A superb record.»

I agree, great band! Check out "Zodiak" LP from UYS, they had a silmilar sound (I think), and a great lp on Maximum Voice Production in 1994/95, if you're lucky to find it...

Hey, no CD of the Kimusawea releases.
I don't have any dwnld links for the UYS album, but you still can find it cheap on some distro (http://www.punkwinkel.nl/cart.php?target=category&category_id=352 for example) Someone might rip it and put it on the web. As for now I will give only NABATE's releases here.

i love this
i remember seeing it in distros back then but due to money contraints i always passed it up
i wish i hadnt but listening to it now takes me back to those days
its really not as experimental as it was or is made out to be
i reminds me of some polish and italian stuff that came out aroung the same era
i cant say for sure what bands i am very fortunate to actually own a few hundred records and my memory is not so clear
thanks for this and all your post as well as your hardwork making this label alive while it was

I absolutely - ABSOLUTELY - love this band! I'll be posting their first 7" over at 7inchcrust within the week - too sad they haven't been around for ages & even more sad they only recorded these two short releases... Nevertheless, it does take a fair amount of time to decipher their sound, so I never get bored listening to those same two records. Thanks Al!
