COUNTER ATTACK "Masters and Jesters" LP (nab21)
Okay, here is another strong release on NABATE that never came out in the CD format. (UNHINGED will be next ;-D)
Released on Nabate Records 15.07.2000,
COUNTER ATTTACK hailed from Alken, Hasselt and Gent in Flanders. They were influenced by early eighties uk bands like Flux Of Pink Indians, Dirt and CRASS at a time where most punks in Belgium were into stuff like Crust, Metal, Hardcore Emo or Power Violence.
This is the second album following the "Laments and Skulls" LP out on Prejudice Production who suffered of lack of mastering. "Masters and Jesters" was mastered by Alain Martin who did a real great job of making sound great a still very cheap recording.
Ivan is now (July 08) with VISIONS OF WAR (web) and Stef is now doing KISS THE ANUS OF A BLACK CAT (web)
Here is a review cought on the net:
«Counter-Attack was an anarcho-punk band from Belgium that was formed in the mid-'90s and existed through 2004, releasing two LPs, "Laments And Skulls" and "Master And Jester." Musically, they are a perfect blend between Crass and Conflict with interesting and catchy songs. Aside from their music, what set Counter-Attack apart from their '90s contemporaries was their ability to take political issues and attack them from unique and interesting angles in a way that i can only compare to Crass. As an example, the song "Zebra" looks at the prison industrial complex from a perspective that questions correctional institutions and their ability to improve a prisoner's behavior, while never excusing the behaviors of those in prison. They combat both the apathetic punk attitude as well as the political punk movement itself in a critical and engaging way without ever coming off as preachy or condescending.» "Sorry State records" (web)
track list:
1. there is a land... (3:28)
2. ...well is there? (4:48)
3. Redundancy (3:59)
4. Our Hands Are Empty (1:42)
5. Zebra (3:20)
6. Cenetistas (4:38)
7. A Whim Of Melancholy (4:15)

KIMUSAWEA "Kurze Abhandlung Vom Menchen Und Seinem Glück" LP (nab13)
Released on NABATE on january 1998. KIMUSAWEA hailed from Frankfurt, Germany, and this 12" is the follow up of their debut ep 7" on the MAXIMUM VOICE PRODUCTION label. The band split up the same year following the relocation of the singer Alex to Berlin. She screamed with now dufunct grindcore band BOLZ'N and has several other project to date (www.myspace.com/alexandravonbolzn). The sleeve was designed by the band and has one hole in the front and the lyrics are printed in varnish on the back. KIMUSAWEA remains the most sophisticated band on the NABATE catalog. Due to their originality and the slit up, the 12" didn't sell well.
edit I: Here the link to the new web site of Alex: http://alphacat.mulomatic.net/
edit II: You can find the 7" on the excelent 7inchcrust.blogspot
track list:
A
1. Star (Look Up My X-File) (3:58)
2. Blut, Blüte (Weltschmerz-Verbresserer) (3:45)
3. Tagebuch EinerbKrankheit, Die Deinen Namen Trug (4:12)
B
4. Winter Der Liebe (3:38)
5. Tief (6:19)
6. Kairos (3:33)
Track 3 includes samples taken from: Wild At Heart (by David Lynch), Life Dances On... (by Robert Frank), Brazil (by Terry Gilliam), Phase IV (by Saul Bass) and Elephant Man (again by David Lynch).
review found on internet:
«This LP combines really cool abstract, artistic material and direct punk rock. Each songs has many layers, giving it a really full sound. Kimusawea have an intense sound that doesn't quit. A lot of German bands have this engaging style, but the female vocals bring in a hint of Nausea that can't be ignored. One track goes deep into a trance-like groove that reminded me of Neurosis. The packaging is also really impressive. The lyrics are printed in varnish on the back cover; a nice effect, but it does make them hard to read at times. A superb record.»

Disaffect "Chained To Morality" lp (nab09)
There was a so called "Glasgow - Liege connection" that was buit over the years, (as much as for Liege-Bradford/Leeds). I don't remember exactly how it started. I know we'd been hitchhicking up to Glasgow and that people who would become longtime friends put us up in their flat, it must be in 1990. Glasgow was European Capital of Culture, Gordy had a mohawk and was singing with Psycho Flowers, who's guitarist was none other than Brian would later do Disaffect and Quarantine. You can hear Gordy on the last song of this album "The Man Who Cleaned the Bog".
People in Scotland seemed to have those unruly manners and customs like kissing in the mouth to say hello or bye bye and having a sense of partying as much as they possibly could. All kind of behaving that could only attract any brave folks hailing from Liege. The cultural exchange reached it's peak when poeple from Liege moved to Glasgow and vis versa! It was very conviniant as Bradford was right on the way where Scots and Liege's folks had friends (and vis versa)
This album of Disaffect was released in 1994. They released on their own Anonimous Records & Panoptic Visions a discography CD. The recording here up for download is ripped directly from the vynil which sounds slightly different due to the masterings.
edit: JOE is now singing with CONSTANT FEAR (web)

Unhinged "Crime and Punishment" lp (nab015)
I wanted to put this one straight since I played on this and it is not available anymore nor it has ever been re-issued on cd format unlike the rest of the UNHINGED material.
The line up for this record was Ben, Wills, Nat and Al.
I still gets shivers when I hear this record, I can't believe we did it all ourselves, ha ha. When it came out many people thought the sleeve look uggly. The band'd been labeled "emo-crust" which was a big joke amongst the members that simply saw themselves as punk.
It got almost issued on cd in the US until we changed idea (due to very long delay and poor communication) and thought of releasing it on Nabate. Then the band eventually broke up and the cd of this 2nd album never got released. Some labels still would like to re-issue it now (2008) which is kind of amazing. It got released on tape in Poland and Russia.
Maybe I should write a web page with the Unhinged story, line up, gigs etc.. one day.
Here is one of the track on streaming, with quiet a jolly job at the drums.
edit: I've reposted this has it was the wrong file. Here is "Lifetrap".
Track List:
1. Alone For Too Long (3:12)
2. Empty Vee (2:48)
3. Crime And Punishment (3:42)
4. Lifetrap (1:13)
5. The Failure (4:04)
6. Personne Ne Sourit Plus (3:50)
7. Matière Grise (4:49)

.., thanks dhd, it's too bad this record never came out on digital version at the time. The story is that it was meant to be released on cd version with extra film ("Punk Picnic" of Sandrine Drijvers) on the fine Scott Beibin's imprint BLOODLINK Records. But we ran out of patience with Scott's busy and chaotic life and eventually thought NABATE would released it (i.e. ourselves).
Finally the band broke up before no one released the 2nd album on CD. I can tell you that dropping Bloodlink has been a very bad mistake indeed. I will always feel bad to have canceled this release on his label. I really LOVE Scott & hosted this year his amazing "Lost Film Festival" here in Liege, and spent a WONDERFUL time together!! Al
